Blonde Mancurian heart throb Adam Rickitt has confirmed that he has been signed to create a role on New Zealand's popular long running medical soap "Shortland Street". The 28 year old originally intended to study law at Oxbridge but just before leaving school he was signed by Take That's former manager Nigel Martin Smith. His career was launched immediately when he landed the role of Nick Tilsley in Granada Television's long running soap "Coronation Street" in 1997. Storylines were to range from subjects such as nude life modelling to teen marriage and pregnancy. On leaving The Street to widen his horizons Adam embarked on a music career with his first single "I Breathe Again" peaking at No 5 on the British pop charts. However while touring the UK and Europe to promote his gold selling album "Good Things" he discovered the music scene was not where he wanted to be. Returning to his acting career Adam starred in the stage musical "Rent" as well as plays "Office Games" and "Final Judgement". Granada also asked him to reprise his role on Corrie Street which he did before leaving again in July 2004. Forming a production company "Narcissus" Adam had originally intended to produce a film in New Zealand in Spring 2007. However a chance suggestion by his agent to contact a fellow Brit in Auckland for information on car hire and places to live led to him being offered a role as the mysterious Kieran Mitchell in Shortland Street. Playing the character has excited Adam "as the role and persona are so different to everything else that I have done" with him feeling "utterly compelled to take (the role) on". Long hours filming initially
meant Adam wasn't able to explore much of the country but he has since
managed to do some travelling and enthusiastically promotes New Zealand
as "absolutely stunning". However what sets the place apart
for him has been "the incredible welcome and friendliness of the
people". ©Jen Longshaw 2007 Please do not copy in any manner, print or electronic, without permission from the author. Adam's
